The event, scheduled for July 10, transforms Morrison’s downtown into a live-action murder mystery experience unlike a traditional dinner theater. Participants won’t simply watch the story unfold—they will become part of it.
Hull explained that the idea began as a smaller concept intended to take place inside the Upcycle Junkie storefront. After discussing the storyline with a friend, she was encouraged to expand the event into a community-wide experience. The result is The Art of Murder, an interactive mystery spanning ten different locations along Main Street.
The evening begins at The Loft on Main, Morrison’s fine arts gallery, where participants will check in and receive their personalized case files. From the moment guests arrive, they will be immersed in the mystery with a staged crime scene and an emcee guiding them through the storyline and their objectives.
Unlike traditional mystery events, every attendee receives a character role. After registering, participants will be emailed details about their assigned character and asked to submit a selfie. Organizers will transform those photos into personalized character cards, helping players fully step into their roles before the event even begins.
With only 50 tickets available, organizers are keeping the experience intimate and personalized. The registration deadline is June 10, giving organizers time to prepare individualized materials for every participant.
Attendees are encouraged to embrace the experience by dressing in costume, bringing props, and fully committing to their characters. The more engaged participants are, the more opportunities they will have to earn raffle tickets toward the evening’s grand prize drawing.
The event is open exclusively to guests age 21 and older, partly because some of the participating locations include establishments such as Heroes Pub and Double G Saloon. However, the event itself focuses on mystery-solving, community engagement, and entertainment.
Participants can earn up to six raffle tickets through various activities during the evening, including fully embracing their character roles and successfully identifying the murderer. Those raffle tickets will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize.
The grand prize is a one-night stay at Morrison Adventure Getaways, a unique lodging experience that combines overnight accommodations with escape-room-style challenges. The destination features riddles, hidden elements, and interactive surprises that fit perfectly with the theme of the mystery event.
Beyond the entertainment, Murder Mystery on Main serves an important purpose as a fundraiser for KAPPA, an organization that supports young artists through scholarships awarded to Morrison High School graduates pursuing artistic studies in college.
Tickets are $45 and include appetizers, desserts, mocktails, participation in the mystery experience, and access to a silent auction that will help generate additional funds for the scholarship program. Organizers also expect artwork from The Loft on Main to be featured in the auction.
Hull noted that ticket sales are already underway and expects the event to sell out. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to register before the June 10 deadline.
Tickets can be purchased through Upcycle Junkie’s website at upcyclejunkie.com by selecting the event registration option on the homepage.
