George Fest returns on Saturday, Aug. 1, with activities beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing into the evening. The festival spans multiple locations throughout downtown Rock Falls, giving attendees the flexibility to spend a few hours or enjoy the entire day.
The morning kicks off with a 5K race, followed by a Little Chick Dash, a car show near the McCormack Event Center, and a vendor market featuring a variety of local businesses. At noon, live entertainment takes center stage with multiple bands performing throughout the afternoon and evening. Organizers also encourage visitors to take a break during the day to dine at downtown restaurants and explore local shops before returning for more music later in the evening.
One of George Fest’s biggest goals is making family fun affordable. Prescott explains that organizers have worked to keep activity costs low by helping subsidize attractions, allowing families to participate in more experiences without spending large amounts of money. Admission to the festival itself is completely free, with costs only applying to optional activities or purchases from vendors.
While the festival carries the George Fest name, Prescott emphasizes that the event is not intended to promote Chicken George. In fact, attendees will only find Chicken George available during daytime activities near the McCormack Event Center. The decision was intentional, allowing downtown restaurants and food businesses to benefit from the increased foot traffic rather than competing with one of the area’s most recognizable food vendors.
Community support remains at the center of the festival’s mission. Prescott encourages attendees to meet new people, visit businesses throughout the downtown district, and help keep spending within the local economy. He believes successful communities grow stronger when residents support one another rather than looking outside the area for entertainment and dining.
Safety is also a top priority for George Fest organizers. Local law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and private security will all be on hand throughout the day. Organizers have coordinated extensive planning with first responders to ensure visitors can enjoy the event in a safe environment.
Prescott also highlights the collaborative spirit among local communities, noting that festivals and events throughout the Sauk Valley help give residents reasons to stay local rather than traveling elsewhere for entertainment. He sees George Fest as another opportunity to get people off the couch, into the community, and support local businesses.
With free admission, live music, family activities, vendors, classic cars, and a focus on community connections, George Fest aims to offer something for every age while showcasing everything downtown has to offer.
