The AgroVantage system is designed to help farmers develop customized fertility programs based on soil tests and field-specific conditions rather than relying on generalized recommendations. Jacobs explained that the goal is to identify limiting factors affecting crop production while helping producers maximize efficiency and profitability.
During the AgroVantage Field Day, attendees will tour corn and soybean demonstration plots featuring side-by-side treatment comparisons and check strips that highlight how different management practices impact crop growth. Some results are easy to see, while others become apparent through research and data collected throughout the growing season.
A major focus of the event will be root pit demonstrations, which give participants a chance to examine root systems beneath the soil surface. Jacobs said understanding root development is essential because healthy roots drive nutrient uptake, water absorption and overall plant performance.
Rather than sitting through presentations, attendees will spend time in the field seeing the results firsthand and asking questions. Jacobs said the event is intended for farmers who are willing to learn, explore new ideas and discover practices that may improve both yields and profitability.
He also emphasized the importance of collaboration within agriculture, saying producers benefit when they share ideas and learn from one another. As production costs continue to rise and market conditions remain challenging, exchanging knowledge can help farms remain competitive for years to come.
The AgroVantage Field Day is free to attend and includes a meal. Although there is no registration fee or RSVP deadline, organizers encourage attendees to let them know they plan to attend so enough food can be prepared.
The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 15, at 29933 County Highway 1 near Erie, between Hillsdale and Spring Hill. Registration begins at 3 p.m., with field activities starting shortly afterward.
Jacobs said last year’s field day attracted attendees from seven states, including one participant who traveled more than eight hours to attend. He hopes this year’s event continues to grow while allowing local farmers to see innovative farming practices without having to travel far.
Anyone interested in attending can RSVP by calling or texting Jacobs at 309-314-3603 or by completing the registration form on the Maplewood website, maplewoodag.com.
