The focus of the episode is the Frosty Fun Fair, a wintertime community event returning to Northland Mall for its second year. The goal of the fair is to create a welcoming, indoor space where families can gather, have fun, and connect with local organizations that offer valuable services. With Midwest winter weather often unpredictable, the mall provides the perfect location to open the doors and invite the community inside.
Last year’s Frosty Fun Fair saw strong community participation, with approximately 25 organizations taking part and an estimated 100 to 150 families attending. The event featured free haircuts and a wide range of family-friendly activities, and Kerrie shared her hope of continuing and growing the fair as an annual tradition.
This year’s Frosty Fun Fair is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Around 20 organizations are already signed up to participate, with a renewed focus on highlighting programs and resources available to families right as they enter the mall. The event is open to everyone, not just families, and anyone looking for a fun and engaging way to spend time indoors during winter is encouraged to attend.
One of the highlights teased for this year is an interactive introduction to home visiting programs. Families will have the opportunity to learn about the home visiting option offered through Head Start and Early Head Start, along with similar services provided by three other local organizations. This hands-on experience is designed to help families better understand resources that are often considered hidden gems within the community.
Kerrie also shared an important update for families planning ahead. Enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year is beginning, and attendees at the Frosty Fun Fair will be able to start the Head Start application process in person. This gives families a chance to ask questions, get assistance, and begin securing a spot for the upcoming school year without the hassle of navigating online forms or phone calls.
