MomCo, short for Mom Community, is a national and international organization with a history dating back to the 1970s. What began as a small gathering of moms has grown into a worldwide network spanning more than 100 countries. Megan shared that she was first introduced to MomCo while living in California and quickly realized how valuable the connections were. After relocating to the Sauk Valley, she noticed there was no local chapter nearby and felt a growing desire to bring that same sense of community to the area.
After settling into the community and welcoming her third child, Megan decided the timing was finally right. Sauk Valley MomCo officially launched in September and is already nearing the completion of its first year, with meetings running through April.
A typical MomCo meetup is designed with busy moms in mind. The group meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., offering childcare so moms can relax, connect, and focus on themselves for a couple of hours. Meetings include time for prayer, food, conversation, and activities such as table discussions, crafts, curriculum-based videos, and special events like MomCo swaps, where families exchange gently used items that are later donated to local organizations.
One of the most meaningful aspects of MomCo is the presence of mentor moms. These are seasoned mothers and grandmothers who come alongside younger moms, offering encouragement, practical advice, and a listening ear. Megan emphasized how impactful it is to see moms supporting one another across generations, whether that means holding a baby so someone can grab coffee or reassuring a new mom that the hard seasons do pass.
Membership in MomCo includes a small annual fee that goes directly to the national organization, providing access to resources and publications. Megan stressed that finances should never be a barrier, noting that scholarships are available and accessibility is a priority.
Reflecting on the past year, Megan shared that one of the most rewarding moments has been watching relationships form organically. Seeing moms connect outside of meetings, support one another in the community, and truly take ownership of the group has affirmed the original vision behind starting Sauk Valley MomCo.
Looking ahead, the focus is on growth and outreach. As more moms step into leadership roles and bring their unique gifts to the table, the organization continues to evolve. Summer playdates, broader community promotion, and reaching moms who may be searching for connection are all part of the plan moving forward. Importantly, Sauk Valley MomCo is not tied to a specific church, making it welcoming to moms from all backgrounds.
