Along the Rock: S3 Ep 47-Trivia For a Good Cause | Bi-County Cooperative Foundation

Hosted by Nathan Stahr, Article by Sara Bellows
On this episode of Along the Rock, host Nathan Stahr welcomes Jim Geer and Tony Crisp from the Bi-County Special Education Foundation to discuss an upcoming trivia night that blends fun, community engagement, and a meaningful mission.

Set to take place in Rock Falls, the annual trivia night has become the foundation’s primary fundraiser and continues to grow in both participation and impact. Now in its fourth year, the event has evolved from a previous fundraiser while maintaining its core purpose of supporting students and strengthening special education opportunities in the region.

The trivia format is designed to be accessible and entertaining for everyone. Each round features a different category, ranging from traditional topics like sports, movies, and literature to more unique and challenging themes that test a team’s overall knowledge. The event emphasizes teamwork, encouraging participants to bring a mix of skills and interests to the table. With a different winning team each year, the competition remains unpredictable and welcoming to both newcomers and returning groups.

Beyond the competition, the event plays a vital role in funding scholarships. Proceeds directly support students in special education programs who are pursuing further education, whether through trade schools, two-year colleges, or four-year universities. In addition, scholarships are awarded to general education students who are entering fields related to special education, helping to build the next generation of educators and specialists.

The evening also includes several additional fundraising opportunities. A silent auction will feature donated baskets from local businesses and community members, allowing attendees to bid throughout the night. A 50/50 raffle adds another layer of excitement between trivia rounds. This year, organizers are also introducing round sponsorships, allowing businesses and individuals to support the cause while gaining visibility during the event.

Attendees will also have the chance to meet Onyx, the foundation’s therapy dog, who regularly visits classrooms and supports students throughout the Bi-County program. Onyx’s presence adds a personal and uplifting element to the evening.

The event will be held on April 17 at the Rock Falls American Legion. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., with trivia beginning at 7:00 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, and teams typically range from six to ten participants. Individuals or smaller groups are encouraged to attend, as organizers will help place them on teams or form new ones.
