Along the Rock: S3 Ep 54-YWCA Annual Women of Achievement Luncheon | Celebrating the Women in Our Area

Hosted by Nathan Stahr, Article by Sara Bellows
On this episode of Along the Rock, host Nathan Stahr welcomed Rebecca Muñoz-Ripley, executive director of the YWCA of Sauk Valley, to discuss the organization’s upcoming Women of Achievement Luncheon and the broader impact of its work across the Sauk Valley.

Now in its 43rd year, the Women of Achievement Luncheon stands as one of the longest-running and most meaningful traditions for the YWCA. The event celebrates women throughout Lee and Whiteside counties who have made significant contributions to their communities, often without widespread recognition. The luncheon provides an opportunity to bring those efforts into the spotlight and honor the impact these women have made.

Muñoz-Ripley shared that the event continues to be a powerful and inspiring experience for attendees. Each year, stories of leadership, service, and resilience are highlighted through nominations, leaving a lasting impression on those in attendance. The luncheon not only recognizes achievement but also encourages others to consider how they can contribute to strengthening their communities.

While the event centers on honoring women, it remains inclusive and welcoming to all. Community members of any gender are encouraged to attend and support the mission. Participation from across the community helps reinforce the importance of recognizing contributions that have historically gone overlooked.

The luncheon also serves as the largest annual fundraiser for the YWCA of Sauk Valley. Funds raised directly support a wide range of programs and services throughout the region. These include initiatives such as the annual Girl Summit, which provides education and resources focused on mental health, self-care, and life skills, as well as community events like Cinco de Mayo celebrations that incorporate health and wellness outreach.

Beyond events, the organization provides critical services year-round. These include comprehensive domestic violence support, such as a 24-hour hotline, legal advocacy, counseling for individuals of all ages, and transitional housing. The organization also operates as the certified rape crisis center for the Sauk Valley area, offering immediate response and ongoing support for survivors.

In addition, the YWCA of Sauk Valley delivers prevention education programs in schools across Lee and Whiteside counties, reaching students from preschool through college. These programs aim to promote healthy relationships and empower young people to recognize and report harmful situations. The organization also provides outreach and support to hundreds of immigrants each year, along with specialized programming for girls and families.

Fundraising efforts like the luncheon are essential not only for sustaining these services but also for unlocking additional funding. Many grants require local matching dollars, meaning community contributions directly increase the amount of outside funding that can be brought back into the region. Without strong local support, fewer resources would be available to serve those in need.

The event also plays an important role in raising awareness. Many individuals who rely on YWCA services face financial hardship or difficult circumstances that may not be visible to the broader community. Seeing strong support for the luncheon reinforces a sense of community care and connection for those individuals.

The 2026 Women of Achievement Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at the Dixon Elks. Doors open at 11 a.m., with the program beginning at noon. The event is expected to conclude early in the afternoon. Tickets are available for individual attendees or full tables, and proceeds will directly benefit YWCA programs.

In addition to the awards presentation, attendees can participate in several fundraising activities, including a dessert dash and basket raffles featuring a variety of prizes. These elements add a layer of excitement and engagement while further supporting the organization’s mission.

For those interested in future participation, nominations for Women of Achievement are accepted year-round. Community members can submit nominations for individuals who live or work in Lee or Whiteside counties, ensuring that deserving women continue to be recognized in the years ahead.
