Along the Rock: S3 Ep 97-Discover Dixon’s HUGE Summer Event Lineup 2026 | City Market, Petunia Fest, Drone Show & More!

Hosted by Emma Watts, Article by Sara Bellows
On this episode of Along the Rock, host Emma Watts sat down with Jennifer Lang and Amanda Wike from Discover Dixon to discuss the packed lineup of summer events and community celebrations happening throughout Dixon in 2026.

As summer officially kicks off across the Sauk Valley, Discover Dixon is preparing for months of weekly markets, live entertainment, fitness programs, family activities, and major seasonal festivals designed to bring residents and visitors together along the city’s riverfront and downtown district.

One of the first major events of the season is the return of the Dixon City Market, which begins Wednesday, May 27, and runs weekly from 5 to 8 p.m. along the riverfront. The market will feature between 50 and 60 vendors each week, offering everything from handmade crafts and pottery to baked goods and food vendors. Live music will also be featured throughout the season, with Shaylin Wescott opening the summer concert lineup.

Jennifer Lang explained that vendors can participate throughout the season on flexible schedules, whether weekly, monthly, or periodically throughout the summer. Discover Dixon also welcomes nonprofit organizations to participate, bringing kid-friendly activities and educational opportunities to the event.

Watts highlighted the growing popularity of local vendor markets throughout the Sauk Valley, noting the strong support for local artisans, small businesses, and entrepreneurs across the region.

In addition to City Market, Discover Dixon is launching its Fitness Fridays series beginning June 5. Free weekly fitness classes will take place on Fridays at 7 a.m. on the downtown riverfront in partnership with Rhuomai Studio, the YMCA, and Grit and Grace. The opening class will feature a Power Shred workout led by Grit and Grace instructors. Organizers emphasized that the classes are open to all skill levels and designed to encourage community members to stay active while discovering local fitness opportunities.

Friday evenings throughout the summer will also feature Music at the Square at John Dixon Park from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, coolers, and picnic dinners while enjoying free live music in one of Dixon’s most scenic downtown spaces. Families can also take advantage of the nearby playground while enjoying the performances. Discover Dixon partnered with Culver’s to provide lemon ice treats during the events, adding another summer tradition to the weekly gatherings.

The conversation also focused on the variety of free family activities available throughout Dixon during the summer months. Lang praised the partnerships between Discover Dixon, the library, the park district, and other community organizations that help provide accessible entertainment and recreation opportunities for residents of all ages.

Among the larger events planned this summer is the Summer Block Party on Saturday, June 6. The event will include face painting, balloon artists, a petting zoo, kid-friendly activities, and participation from local nonprofits and businesses. Organizers described the event as a fun and affordable way for families to spend a summer morning downtown.

Much of the discussion also centered around Dixon’s participation in America’s 250th anniversary celebrations this year. Amanda Wike explained that Discover Dixon has partnered with numerous community organizations to coordinate special patriotic events throughout the summer.

One of the featured events will be a Red, White, and Blue Ball, allowing attendees to dress formally while enjoying music, dinner, and drinks. The city will also celebrate the dedication of the new pedestrian bridge on the Fourth of July as part of the larger 250th anniversary festivities.

Wike also highlighted Brush and Bloom, an event where community members will paint the historic Lee County Courthouse, along with the many activities surrounding Petunia Festival week.

Another highly anticipated event returning later this summer is Venetian Night, which will once again feature a drone show over Dixon’s riverfront. Organizers described last year’s event as a major success and said the celebration will continue expanding in 2026 with additional activities and entertainment.

Both Lang and Wike also reflected on their personal favorite events of the summer season. Lang pointed to Venetian Night and the Scarecrow Festival as standout events that bring the community together in a major way, while Wike praised the weekly City Market for its support of local entrepreneurs and community engagement.

Wike also highlighted the City Market Junior program, which gives youth entrepreneurs between the ages of 6 and 16 an opportunity to operate their own booths during the final City Market of the season.

Throughout the episode, the guests repeatedly encouraged listeners to visit Discover Dixon’s website: discoverdixon.com, for updated schedules, entertainment lineups, dining guides, and information about local businesses and attractions. They also invited residents to stop by the Discover Dixon office at 87 South Hennepin Avenue in downtown Dixon.
