The annual show, held at 8105 Springhill Road in Erie, is always free, family-friendly, and offers visitors a unique way to experience the past and the old-fashioned agricultural ways. The show is held rain or shine!
Brothers Kevin and Chuck Bos and their team of family and friends alternate the working farm shows each year between a Summer Threshing Bee and a Fall Harvest Show. This year, they’ll be harvesting corn and soybeans on their acreage, just as the fall season starts. The show starts on Friday, September 25th, and goes through the weekend.
Guests are invited to take a step back in time and watch as farmers harvest the crops, plow the stalks and stubble, shell the corn, mill the cornmeal, and bake cornbread in the cookshack.
There will also be other demonstrations around the farm, such as a working sawmill, rock crushing, woodworking, and blacksmithing. In the barn, there will be pottery throwing, rug weaving on looms, wood turning, rope making, basket weaving, quilting, and other demonstrations to give visitors an up-close look at traditional skills and techniques.
All are welcome to a Sunday church service at 9:30 a.m. The Back Road Pullers Inc. will have their last Truck & Tractor Pull of the season on Sunday at 1 p.m. with muscle tractor plowing.
“Our passion for farming and everything old has given us the desire to share with others how farming was done years ago, before all of the technology we have today. We want to teach people the ways our parents and grandparents survived; by living off the land,” the website says of the brothers’ inspiration.
Golf carts are available for rent, and people-movers and a “Twinkie Train” will transport guests around the showgrounds or fields so they can see all there is to offer. Food, drinks, vendors, and modern restrooms are on-site.
Show hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday. Check out Bos Bros Historical Farm on Facebook, or visit their website bosbroshistoricalfarm.com for more information.
