February Hennepin Canal Hike Highlights Bald Eagle Route

Submitted
The Friends of the Hennepin Canal will hold their monthly hike on Sunday, February 15, traveling from Lock 30 to Lock 32 along the historic Hennepin Canal.

This segment of the “Hike the Hennepin” series is 4.6 miles in length and has been designated the “Bald Eagle” hike. The route begins near the Mississippi River, an area where participants may have the opportunity to observe bald eagles, which have been seen frequently along the canal this winter.

Participants will meet at the steel dam in Milan at 1:30 p.m., where transportation will be provided to the Mississippi River to begin the hike back to the meeting location.

Directions:
Take I-80 to I-280, then exit at Exit 15 in Milan onto E. 1st Avenue (Airport Road) toward Milan. Take the first road on the right (Frontage Road) and follow it to the right onto 14th Street NE. Continue past the warehouses to the parking lot near the old steel dam.

The hike is free and open to the public. Membership in the Friends of the Hennepin Canal is not required to participate. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for winter weather conditions and to bring a friend.
