Foster Fair offers families a fun outing, a chance to learn about local organizations supporting kids and families, and the opportunity to meet LSSI foster care staff and learn about becoming a foster parent.

Foster Fair – Dixon activities will include touch-a-truck, a dunk tank, face painting, giveaways, refreshments, and more! Attendees can also purchase food from participating food trucks and vendors. Participating organizations include: Believe in the Children, Braden Counseling, CASA, Com Ed, Discover Dixon, Early Childhood Intervention, LSSI Youth Prevention Services and Behavioral Health Programs, Ogle County Health Department, Raising Hope, Rock River Disc Golf, and Shining Star. Food trucks scheduled to participate include Kona Ice, La Cocina De Irene, Ruby’s Coffee Coach, and Sweet Butts Cotton Candy.

“As the largest private statewide provider of foster care, LSSI licenses foster parents and prepares them for this vital role. Foster Fair showcases our expertise within a fun event and highlights other organizations helping kids and families,” said Christine Hawes, Manager, of Foster Parent Licensing/Recruitment. “Foster parents truly make a difference in children’s lives.”

In Illinois, nearly 20,000 children are in foster care, and there is a critical need for foster parents.

“We want families and kids to have fun along with the opportunity for people to learn about foster parenting,” Hawes said. “We hope to inspire people to take steps to become licensed or help us spread the word about the need for foster parents and LSSI’s expertise.”
