The program will be offered provided that at least 10 students register and submit payment by the Friday, April 17 registration deadline. If sufficient enrollment is reached, the course will run from Monday, June 1, through Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The cost of the program will be $315.
If the course moves forward, classroom instruction will be held Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. No classroom or behind-the-wheel sessions will take place on Fridays. The program will be open to students residing both within and outside the boundaries of Morrison Community Unit School District #6.
Behind-the-wheel driving sessions will be scheduled before class from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and after class from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to select their preferred BTW time slots during a time-slot selection process on the first day of class.
Because the Driver Education vehicle is shared with staff members who attend conferences during the summer months, some driving sessions may extend into July and August, depending on vehicle availability.
Students who are at least 15 years old will be eligible to complete the full program during the summer session, including the 30-hour classroom requirement, the six-hour behind-the-wheel driving requirement, and the six-hour in-car observation requirement. Students who are at least 14 years and six months old may enroll in the classroom portion and will be eligible to complete their BTW driving sessions later in the summer or during the Fall 2026 semester after turning 15.
In addition to the course fee, students must pay a $20 instruction permit fee directly to the Illinois Secretary of State when applying for their permit. This fee must be paid separately and should not be included with the course registration payment.
Parents or guardians interested in placing a student on the tentative roster are encouraged to contact Brian Bartoz, Social Studies and Driver Education teacher, by email at Brian.Bartoz@morrisonschools.org or by phone at (815) 772-4071 ext. 12106. If at least 10 students commit to registering, registration forms will be emailed in April to families who have expressed interest.
