He was born May 5, 1937, in Dixon, the son of James and Eva (Bradley) Gugerty. Dave had worked at Raynors, Northwestern Steel and Wire, and then was an equipment operator and foreman for the Dixon Street Dept. for over 29 years prior to retirement in 1996.Â
He was a veteran of the Army and a member of the St Patrick Catholic Church and was a member and past president of the Living History Antique Equipment Assoc. Dave married Dolly Lawson in 1960.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Theresa Ann Gugerty, and granddaughter Abby Virtue.
Dave is survived by his wife Dolly, children Thomas Gugerty and Jim Gugerty, both of Dixon, Amy (Richard) Virtue of Hanover, grandchildren Cassey (Jason) McStoots, Samantha (Brian) O’Connell, Devon Gugerty, Ikea Gugerty, Niko Gugerty, David Virtue, great-grandchildren Liam Siebel, Xoe Siebel, and Emma Gugerty, and one sister Lucy Burke of Dixon.
Dave was a great husband and a loving father and grandfather.Â
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. Military Honors will follow Mass at church, with a luncheon following at the Holloway Center. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a scripture service at 7:00 PM at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon with a scripture service at 7:00 PM. Casual attire is requested at the services. Cremation will follow the services, with burial of cremains at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. A memorial has been established at St Patrick Catholic Church.
