David E. Weaver, the man, the myth, the legend, and mayor of Grand Detour, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, at Franklin Grove Living and Rehab Center.

He was born Nov. 4, 1941, in Dixon, the son of Richard and Arlene (Mon) Weaver. Dave had been a truck driver working for the Teamsters and had also worked at Lost Nation Golf Course, the Coach Light, Uncle Charlie’s and Catalina’s. He had been a member of the Moose and enjoyed driving his antique fire truck in local parades.

Catalina’s Tavern shared the following tribute to Weaver:

“If you knew Weaver, you knew. He was one of a kind, and there will never be another quite like him.

Give that man a jukebox and you could pretty much count on hearing Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup,” a little David Allan Coe, and of course “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor.” 😂 Those songs will forever make us think of him, and he wanted you to know, “I played this.”

For years, the ongoing joke around here was that Weaver was the Mayor of Grand Detour — a title he wore pretty damn well.

Weaver was more than a customer. He was part of the character, the stories, the laughter and the history of this old tavern.”

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, one son and two daughters.

He is survived by one daughter and one brother, Richard Weaver of Polo.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and burial of cremains will be at a later date in Grand Detour Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.
