Obituary-James R. Lawrence, Sr.

James R. Lawrence, 80, of Sterling, died on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Rock River Hospice Home.

Jim was born March 12, 1944, in Morrison, the son of Lester and Oris (Clary) Lawrence. He married Mary Cassatt on July 17, 1965, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. Jim was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire for many years. He also worked at the Sterling Park District and Sterling Walmart until his retirement. Jim enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Sterling; two children, Cindi Payne (Greg Dimmig), of Amboy, and James (Ing) Lawrence Jr., of Las Vegas, NV; four sisters, Loris Lawrence, Betty (Alan) Laidig, all of Dixon, Jill (Jeremy) Pribble, and LuAnn Albus, all of Nelson; two brothers, Lester (Liz) Lawrence of Goldthwaite, TX, and Bob Lawrence, of Lexington, KY; sister-in-law, Jan Lawrence of Mt. Morris; six grandchildren, Luke (Elsa) Payne, Abby (Charlie) Ellis, Jeri (Brian) Morrissey, Taylor (Alexandria) Payne, Isaiah Lawrence and Channing Lawrence; nine great-grandchildren, Teagan, Mason, and Taiden Payne, August Ellis, Blake, and Joie Morrissey. Chandler, Laura, and Will Payne; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Stan Lawrence; one sister, Vicky Kested; son-in-law, Douglas Payne; and brother-in-law, Ray Albus.

Cremation rites have been accorded with the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. A private family graveside service will take place at Nelson Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.
