Born in Natalia, Texas, Maria built a life defined by devotion, generosity, and the joy she found in the people around her.
Maria married Terry C. Bennett on December 7, 1968, and together they shared 57 years filled with many memories, laughter, and a life built side by side. She was a proud and loving mother to her three children — Terry C. Bennett Jr., James K. Bennett, and Sara K. Bennett — and her heart only grew fuller as her family expanded.
She was the cherished grandmother of nine: Julian T. Bennett, Anthony J. Bennett, Kira L. Bennett, Zachary J. Bennett, Camryn F. Bennett, Sophie L. Bennett, Mason K. Bennett, Peyton T. Walters, and Ysabella M. Walters, and the adoring great-grandmother of Xavier J. Bennett and Athena N. Aguinaga. Family was the center of Maria’s world, and she poured her love into every generation.
Maria is survived by her siblings, Ruben Reyes and Delma Frias, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who felt her warmth throughout their lives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eladio and Ramona Reyes (Frias), and six of her siblings.
Among her many beloved relatives, Maria shared a special bond with her niece, Shannon D. Andrews (Reyes), whose constant communication, support, and daughter-like presence brought Maria comfort and joy throughout the years.
In her best days, Maria embraced life with a spirit that was both playful and nurturing. She loved garage sales, cooking and baking for those she loved, and gathering her family for sleepovers filled with ghost stories and laughter. She treasured her trips to Florida, where she soaked up the sun and the peace of the beach. Horror movies, family time, and the company of her grandchildren were among her greatest joys.
Maria’s family gathered to say goodbye in a celebration of her life, sharing memories, stories, and the deep love they will always carry for her. Though she is no longer with them, the warmth she gave so freely lives on in every person she touched.
She will be forever cherished, forever remembered, and forever missed.
