She was born on June 29, 1926, in Sublette, IL, the daughter of Dale and Goldie (Buzard) Cooper. Shirley worked with her husband in the office of the family business, O. Selgestad and Son Cabinet Makers in Dixon. She was a member of the Dixon Country Club and member and past president of Rock River Garden Club.
Shirley married John W. Selgestad on April 6, 1946, in Dixon. He preceded her in death on July 22, 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ronald and Earl Cooper. Shirley is survived by her sons Dr. Greg (Theresa) Selgestad, Dr. Brad Selgestad, one grandson Aaron Lambou-Selgestad, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation rites have been accorded, with burial of cremated remains to take place at Grand Detour Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established for the Rock River Garden Club. Arrangements by the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.
