Tom was born on November 19, 1937, in Peru, Illinois, the son of Virgil and Dorothea (Kurtenbach) Gower. He graduated from Dixon High School and went on to serve as an Illinois State Trooper, retiring after a dedicated career in law enforcement. He also owned and operated his own tree service until the age of 74. Tom married Georgia Grace on February 28, 1986. Together, they shared 38 wonderful years of marriage. Family was very important to Tom, and he cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and friends. Outside of work, Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working in his yard. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and never met a stranger. His quick wit, strong work ethic, generosity, and love for his family left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Tom is survived by his brother, William (Patti) Gower; Amy (Steven) Drew, Michael (Michelle) Gower, and Stephen (Dana) Grace; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia; his parents, Virgil and Dorothea Gower; his brothers, Robert and John Gower; and his sister, Mary (Delmar) Stauffer.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family burial will take place at a later date. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held, with details to be announced in the coming weeks. Arrangements were completed by McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls
