He was born on Dec. 3, 1960, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Glenn and Velma (Hendershott) Garnhart.
Tim worked for WLLT, WSDR, and, most recently, was the News Director for WIXN and River Country. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Judson University in Rockford.
Tim was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon and Covenant Players International Drama Ministry.
He married Judith Hertler on June 20, 1992, in Chillicothe, Ohio.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stanley Garnhart and David Garnhart; and one nephew, Christopher Garnhart.
He is survived by his wife, Judith; children, Philip Garnhart of Dixon, Faith (Goose Glover) Garnhart of Woosung, and Dylan (Valere Pool) Garnhart of Dixon; siblings, Steven (Gloria) Garnhart, Linda Garnhart, and Samuel (Kimber) Garnhart; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon and again on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon. Cremation rites will follow.
The family asks guests to wear their favorite bright Hawaiian shirts to the visitation on Friday and their most fun necktie to the funeral service on Saturday.
A memorial has been established for the Historic Dixon Theatre.
