“I used to organize open mics at Illinois State University (ISU),” said Logan Moeller, a barista at Coffee Crush and a recent ISU communications graduate. “I want to bring what we did at Illinois State (University) to Dixon.”
This Thursday will not be the first time Coffee Crush hosted an open mic night, according to Janelle Gomez, a Coffee Crush barista. A creative writing instructor at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon hosted an open mic at the coffee shop this past Spring.
“It was so crowded,” Gomez said. “We had people sitting on the floor.”
Moeller decided to organize an open mic night because he wants to do something with his degree, according to Gomez.
“I hope to plan future events here,” Moeller said. “This place has a great coffee shop vibe.”
Each participant will get to play either two songs or a five-minute set.
“We will try to get in as many people as possible,” Moeller said.
