Gemini arrived at Granny Rose Animal Shelter on April 18 as an owner surrender and has spent the past few months winning over everyone he meets. Despite the change in surroundings, the young dog has adjusted remarkably well and is known for his calm, affectionate personality.
Brian described Gemini as a dog who simply enjoys being close to people. Whether relaxing in his kennel, riding quietly in the car, or cuddling with visitors, Gemini has consistently displayed a gentle temperament. Shelter staff say he rarely barks, settles comfortably into his bed after exercise, and is content simply spending time with people.
At approximately one year old, Gemini has already reached most of his adult size. While he may fill out a bit as he matures, he is expected to remain a medium-sized dog, making him a great fit for many households.
Gemini is fully vetted, neutered, and current on all vaccinations, meaning he is ready to go home with an approved adopter immediately. During his time at the shelter, he has shown positive interactions with children and has even remained calm around cats, an encouraging sign for families with other pets.
His adoption fee is $350, which includes his veterinary care, vaccinations, and neutering. Prospective adopters must complete an application and approval process before bringing him home.
In addition to highlighting Gemini, Brian shared updates about several programs and needs at Granny Rose Animal Shelter.
The shelter is preparing to participate in an upcoming pancake breakfast during the Whiteside County Airport Fly-In, where volunteers will serve breakfast while visitors enjoy aircraft, classic cars, and family-friendly activities. Shelter staff also hope to bring one of their adoptable dogs to meet attendees.
Brian also highlighted the shelter’s unique “Rent-a-Dog” program. The initiative allows approved participants to spend a day or weekend with one of the shelter dogs, giving animals a break from kennel life while providing companionship to people who may not be able to own a pet full-time, such as apartment residents or those unable to make a long-term commitment.
Granny Rose continues to rely heavily on volunteers and community donations to provide care for homeless animals. Recent support from Tractor Supply helped stock the shelter’s pet food pantry, which provides food assistance to pet owners experiencing financial hardship.
While the shelter has received significant community support in recent months, Brian noted that Granny Rose is still working to recover financially after launching a fundraising campaign to address operational challenges. Community donations have helped the shelter make substantial progress toward its fundraising goal, but additional support remains critical to maintaining its animal care programs and community services.
For anyone searching for a loyal, easygoing companion, Gemini offers the complete package: a young dog with a loving personality who is ready to become part of a forever family.
