Hosted by Nicole Bollman, Article by Sara Bellows
On this episode of Along the Rock – Pet of the Week, host Nicole Bollman sits down with Brian Dixon from Granny Rose Animal Shelter to introduce viewers to a lovable dog ready for a second chance.

Meet Humphrey, a four-year-old pitbull mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. From the moment he arrives, it’s clear he’s full of energy, curiosity, and affection. Whether he’s eagerly showing off his tricks or gently taking treats, Humphrey proves he has both charm and training on his side.

Brian explains that Humphrey has been at the shelter for a while, and like many dogs in that environment, the stress is beginning to take a toll. Shelter life can be overwhelming, and despite his friendly nature, Humphrey is ready to leave that behind and settle into a calm, loving home where he can truly thrive.

Humphrey is already neutered, fully vaccinated, and well-trained. He rides well in the car, enjoys meeting new people, and has done especially well during outings through the shelter’s “Rent-a-Dog” program. Families with children have spent time with him, and he’s consistently impressed with his behavior and friendliness.

One generous detail that makes Humphrey even more appealing to potential adopters is that a donor has already covered his adoption fee. That means he’s ready to go home with the right person or family without that added cost barrier.

While Humphrey has many great qualities, he does have a few specific needs. He would do best as the only animal in the home, as he doesn’t get along well with other dogs or cats. However, with people, he shines. He’s affectionate, playful, and highly motivated by treats, making continued training both easy and rewarding.

At four years old, Humphrey still has plenty of energy. He loves walks, playing tug-of-war, and staying active. He’s the kind of dog who will happily keep up with an active owner but also settle in for companionship and attention.

For those not ready to commit to adoption right away, Granny Rose Animal Shelter offers fostering opportunities. Even a temporary break from the shelter can make a huge difference for dogs like Humphrey, giving them a chance to decompress and show their true personality in a home setting.

Beyond adoption and fostering, the shelter continues to provide valuable programs for the community. From affordable vaccine clinics to unique initiatives like Rent-a-Dog, they are constantly working to improve the lives of animals and connect them with people. They also welcome community support, including donations to help cover adoption fees for other animals in need.

Granny Rose is also gearing up for upcoming events, including the Expressions Unleashed art show on April 18, which will showcase local artists, and the Swinging for Strays golf outing on August 16. This community-driven fundraiser helps support the shelter’s mission.

Humphrey is a great example of a dog who simply needs the right opportunity. With his training, personality, and love for people, he has everything it takes to be an incredible companion. Now, all he needs is someone willing to give him that chance.
