The featured pets were Blossom and Bubbles, two 12-week-old members of the Powerpuff litter. Blossom, a black-and-white kitten with a big personality, has quickly become known as the unofficial leader of the kitten room. Bubbles, meanwhile, is a more independent explorer who enjoys finding new adventures and occasionally testing the limits of her enclosure. Their sister, Buttercup, remains at the shelter awaiting adoption as well.
The trio was rescued through a local trap-neuter-return (TNR) effort before being brought to Happy Tails. After receiving veterinary care, including spay and neuter procedures, vaccinations, flea treatment, and deworming, the kittens are now ready to join permanent families.
Michelle explained that kittens adapt remarkably well to a variety of living situations. Whether joining a home with children, other cats, dogs, or first-time pet owners, young kittens often adjust quickly and thrive in their new environments.
While Blossom and Bubbles stole the spotlight during the episode, they are only two of the many kittens currently being cared for at Happy Tails. The shelter is experiencing the annual influx of kittens that arrive each spring and summer due to unspayed and unneutered cats in the community. At the time of recording, the shelter had nine kittens available in its kitten room and approximately 15 more kittens in isolation receiving care.
To help address the growing population, Happy Tails continues to offer its weekly cat spay-and-neuter clinic. Every Wednesday, cat neuters are available for $75 and spays for $100. The shelter also supports local trap-neuter-return efforts, providing services that include rabies vaccinations and sterilization procedures for community cats.
The conversation also highlighted several upcoming fundraising events designed to support the shelter’s operations. As a nonprofit organization, Happy Tails relies heavily on donations and community support to continue caring for animals in need.
An online auction will run from June 15 through June 19, featuring more than 60 items available for bidding. The auction serves as the kickoff to the shelter’s summer open house celebration.
The open house will take place on June 21 from noon to 3 p.m. and will include a car show, food vendors, refreshments, music, and opportunities to meet adoptable animals. Guests can enjoy tacos, lemonade, ice cream, shopping opportunities, and live entertainment while learning more about the shelter’s mission.
Visitors who have completed adoption applications in advance will also have the opportunity to adopt during the event. Applications can be submitted online or picked up in person at the shelter.
For those unable to adopt or foster, Michelle discussed additional ways to support the organization. One option is the shelter’s virtual sponsorship program, which allows supporters to cover an animal’s adoption fee and help promote them through social media until they find a home.
Happy Tails also operates a thrift store on Dixon Avenue behind Hardee’s. The store accepts donations and sells a wide variety of items, with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting the shelter and its animals.
As the episode wrapped up, the message was clear: kitten season is in full swing, and the need for adopters, donors, volunteers, and supporters remains high. With dozens of kittens currently in care and more arriving throughout the summer, every adoption creates room for another animal in need.
For anyone considering adding a furry companion to the family, Blossom, Bubbles, and their fellow shelter residents are ready to meet their future families and begin their next adventures.
