On this episode of Along the Rock – Pet of the Week, brought to you by the Radar Free Press, host Nicole Bollman welcomed Brian Dixon from Granny Rose Animal Shelter to introduce an especially sweet adoptable dog named Princess Buttercup.

Princess Buttercup is a charming bulldog–beagle mix who instantly won hearts with her gentle demeanor and curious personality. Estimated to be between one and four years old, she arrived at Granny Rose as a transfer from animal control. While much of her early history remains unknown, her time at the shelter has revealed just how loving and affectionate she truly is.

When Princess Buttercup first entered the shelter, she was timid and unsure, often keeping to herself. That quickly changed once she felt safe and began interacting with other animals. A playful encounter with a puppy helped bring out her true personality, and since then, she has become a happy, wiggly, affectionate dog who thrives on companionship and comfort.

Weighing just 27 pounds, Princess Buttercup is an ideal size for many households. She does well with other dogs and children, and while her experience with cats is still being evaluated, her calm nature suggests strong potential. She is also excellent on car rides, content to relax and take in her surroundings, making her a great companion for outings and travel.

One of her standout traits is her love for treats. Princess Buttercup is very food-motivated, which makes her easy to train and eager to please. During her studio visit, she confidently explored her surroundings, showing off her curiosity and sweet nature while keeping a close eye out for snacks.

Those interested in adopting Princess Buttercup can begin by filling out an application at grannyroseanimalshelter.org. Once approved, a meet-and-greet is arranged for households with other pets to ensure a smooth transition. Her adoption fee is $350 and includes full veterinary care, spaying, and all necessary medical services.

The episode also highlighted exciting updates at Granny Rose Animal Shelter. The shelter continues its work on the Stevie Project, an initiative designed to help individuals experiencing homelessness care for their pets. The program aims to keep families and their animals together while reducing the number of pets that end up in shelters or face euthanasia.

Additionally, Granny Rose has been unveiling a refreshed look inside the shelter, featuring colorful, thoughtfully designed murals in multiple rooms. These murals are intended to reduce stress for animals and create a more welcoming environment for visitors and staff. Each room offers a unique theme, from ocean and forest scenes to space-inspired designs and abstract patterns, all contributing to a calmer and more engaging space.

Located just outside of Dixon off Route 2 near Kilgore Road, Granny Rose Animal Shelter continues to serve the community with compassion and dedication. Princess Buttercup’s story is a perfect example of how patience, care, and a loving environment can help an animal truly shine.
