Shativa is a six-year-old Staffordshire terrier mix who has been with the shelter since April 21, 2025. She was returned through no fault of her own after her family had to move out of the country and could not take her along. Despite that transition, Shativa has remained a loyal, affectionate, and resilient dog who is ready to find her forever home.
Described as very loving and people-oriented, Shativa thrives on attention and affection. She enjoys cuddling and spending quality time with her humans. Staff members say she has been wonderful to have around the shelter and even understands some Spanish commands, making her a bit bilingual. With her striking white markings and expressive ears, she is as beautiful as she is sweet.
As a terrier mix, Shativa enjoys using her nose and engaging with her surroundings. She is playful, curious, and benefits from regular walks and enrichment. The shelter has been taking her out into the community for public outings to help her decompress from the shelter environment, and she does well during these trips. She especially loves car rides and happily sticks her head out the window to take in all the smells.
Shativa is selective with other dogs, which is not uncommon in shelter environments. While she may do best as the only dog in the home, she is great with kids and very people-focused. Her compatibility with cats is currently unknown due to the challenges of safely testing that in a shelter setting. Staff emphasizes that dog-selective behavior does not take away from her ability to be an exceptional companion in the right home.
Those interested in adopting Shativa can fill out an application online at grannyroseanimalshelter.org and specify their interest in her. Once the application is reviewed and approved, including standard background checks to ensure a safe placement, potential adopters will be contacted to schedule a meet-and-greet.
Thanks to generous community support, $200 has already been contributed toward Shativa’s adoption fee, reducing it to just $150. Several other dogs at the shelter currently have fully sponsored adoption fees as well. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Granny Rose relies heavily on community donations and support to continue providing care for animals in need.
Brian also shared details about an upcoming event, the Expressions Unleashed Art Show and Auction, scheduled for April 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shelter is currently seeking vendors, including artists, painters, and crafters. Booth space is available for a $50 vendor fee, and more information can be found on the shelter’s website or through their event QR code.
Shativa is a loyal, affectionate dog who simply needs the right home to shine. With her loving personality, playful spirit, and appreciation for cuddles and car rides, she would make a wonderful companion for the right family.
